Otherlands Coffee Bar sits comfortably in Memphis’s Cooper-Young neighborhood, offering more than just your standard coffee shop experience. It’s a laid-back spot where locals come not only for their morning caffeine fix but to catch up, work, or linger over a casual lunch. The vibe blends artistic southern charm with practical comfort, making it a natural gathering place whether you want a quiet corner for your laptop or a lively table with friends.

The coffee here leans into quality and variety—from smooth cappuccinos and classic café au laits to refreshing large cold brews that hit the spot on warmer days. They skillfully balance traditional espresso drinks with options like vanilla soy lattes and chai lattes, appealing to a range of tastes without feeling overly trendy. If you’re after a simple but thoughtful start to the day, pairing your coffee with a cinnamon raisin bagel or banana bread, both staples made fresh by local bakers such as The Ginger’s Bread & Co., feels like a well-paced Memphis morning.

Beyond coffee, the menu introduces some unexpected but fitting touches. Breakfast choices like Heidi’s Breakfast Special and the Turkey Sausage & Egg Burrito offer satisfying, approachable flavors, while lunch items like the oat burger on Ezekiel bread reflect a mindful and slightly adventurous palate. The food preparation feels casual yet considered, matching the relaxed layout and unhurried energy of the place.

Seating options are varied and generous, ranging from cozy indoor nooks to shaded outdoor tables that catch Memphis’s gentle neighborhood buzz. This flexibility makes Otherlands a welcoming spot throughout the day—from early risers stopping in before work to afternoon visitors settling in for some laptop time or casual meetings. The presence of complementary water and a friendly, easygoing staff supports a welcoming atmosphere where people tend to stay a while.

Adding to its appeal is the modest gift shop tucked into the space, where locally made candles and small personal items quietly invite browsing without overwhelming the café’s main rhythm. This touch complements the community-focused feeling that permeates the spot.

In sum, Otherlands Coffee Bar is best for anyone who appreciates a comfortable, unpretentious setting with reliable coffee and food options that nod to local tastes and sensibilities. It’s the kind of place that serves as a hub for neighborhood life—a sturdy backdrop for study sessions, casual meetups, or simply unwinding with decent coffee and a good bite. Visiting on a weekday morning or early afternoon offers the most relaxed experience, while weekends bring a bit more energy from regulars and new visitors alike.

Cool coffee spot with tons of room for activities. There is great seating of all types both inside and outside. The staff is cool and the drink prices are reasonable. They have local backed goods from The Ginger’s Bread & Co. and also make food in house. I recommend anyone to check it out.

The place is so cute and definitely has an artistic southern flair to it. They have complimentary water you can drink and the pimento cheese sandwich with chips is yummy. Thank you for the great experience while I visit Memphis.

EDIT: I am changing my review back to 5 stars, cause I came here to get some work done on my laptop today, and the wifi worked! Thanks, guys! I've been coming to this coffee shop since I was 7 years old. I remember when it used to be a futon store. I've done most of my homework for high school here, studied for exams here, even wrote my first couple research papers here. Otherlands has a special place in my heart. But, guys, I say this with all the love in my heart, please figure out the wifi situation. It seems to have gotten worse lately. I basically either have to tether my computer to my phone or download all my files ahead of time and work offline. The main reason I come here is to get work done, and I want to keep coming here and giving you my business. Love you. PS - to anyone reading this, if you don't know what to order, get the bagel sandwich. I recommend an everything bagel with plain cream cheese. Whenever I've been away from home for too long, I start to dream about that secret sauce

We were visiting from Florida and Otherlands treated us like family every morning as we walked our Frenchie Charleigh to Overton Park and wanted to warm up with a hot cafe. Their seasonal coconut macaroon latte is so amazing and also loved their chai tea latte! Love the staff, love the yummy coffees and love the patrons who are also super sweet.

This is a cute artsy cafe with good coffee. It is self-service but we didn’t mind that. People come here to hang out with friends, have breakfast or work on their computer. The food is quite expensive but it tastes good. We had bagels and coffee.

First coffee shop of the morning we visited in Memphis and it may end up being the last. An institution for the neighborhood since the 1990’s its very lived in in a good way. Multiple rooms , mixed demographics, leans left. Art for sale, art for view. Parking lot, plenty of outlets
